Bears

We get asked about the bears all the time. Movies like "The Edge" (Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin) do not help the general perception of these magnificent creatures. We do get to see many bears while fishing all over the Bristol Bay region. However, bears in general and especially in our region are relatively timid and do not want much to do with humans.

If you do want to see Bears while you are at Mission Lodge, we can fly to Brooks Falls in the Katmai National Park for the day. It is a spectacular sight that is featured on Television all the time. The park has trails with viewing platforms that connect the falls to the lake along the Brooks River. The best time for viewing at the falls is July through early August during the Sockeye Salmon run. There are many bears after this along the river clear into September, which happens to be some great Rainbow Trout fishing as well.
